Q7 Looking back at the preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to a full product?

The skills I have learnt during the whole process in both the preliminary task and the one that followed it is a lot seeing as I was a beginner in most of the technologies we had to use.
I was a Photoshop beginner when we started the preliminary task at that time I didn’t experiment very much with the images I used apart from the saturation and hue brightness and darkness getting the right sized pages and airbrushing some imperfections
However in the music magazine task I did all the  above but made other improvements and changes to the images I use unless I felt the image was better as the original then I leave it as it is. I used lasso tool, free transform, shapes, different fonts and experimented with colour. I scaled certain images if I felt the look stretched when made bigger or looked squashed when made smaller.
I grew in knowledge during the two units of coursework and can do even better with more practice.
In the preliminary task I had a few ideas of how I was going to go about developing the magazine however because I was inexperienced with some technology I didn’t challenge myself too much. In this first task there wasn’t a lot of equipment that we had. We only had a camera and places where
we choose to take the pictures. I chose to use a painting as a background for the college magazine front cover and a green bush as a background for my contents page. In this task I didn’t do much research on the contents pages of college magazine and did sufficient for the front cover only. Because of the mistakes I made in the preliminary task I tried not to make them on the following task which was the music magazine.
I made sure I got familiar with equipment given to me chose sensible backgrounds. Guided the models as to what I wanted in the image and what to pose like and what not to pose like and these were the creative decisions I made at the start.
I had ideas coming from other front covers, from TV shows like Americas next top model for the styling for the models, music videos etc.
When editing I had to pay attention to anchorage, layout – I taught about this a lot when doing the contents page and double page spread I decide on neat columns of four for the double page spread and all text on one side of the page for contents page, mode of address and the register I was going to use.
My front cover was influenced by particular magazines Blender magazine the issue where Katy Perry was on and nicki minaj issue. These issues had lots of colour which was eye-catching.
I therefore tried to use colour in an effective way on my magazine however more subtle and not too in your face.
For my contents page my influences where Vibe magazines use of V and Icon magazine and the use of the line underneath the text.
I used some props but minimal and this was the decision I made I didn’t want it to take away from the original image.
I drafted ideas for my magazine front cover contents and double page and this was really important and really helpful for the final product that was made. Design drafting in this case is really important.
Postproduction feedback
I got feedback verbally from classmates and few friends and I posted the product on face book to get feedback I felt this would be better and I would get more clear and straight to the point feed back  than if I conducted a questionnaire.
Many said that the magazine is very eye-catching trendy and suits their music taste a few felt I should have a few more images on the contents page and a few felt the double page spread should have had more colour I agree with them on the double page spread comment however I think the one image on the contents page is quite strong with the V in bold for Volume when asked which was their favourite it was a mixed answer some said front page others the contents and the rest said the double page spread.
Overall they felt the product as a whole was really good.

Q6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During this media coursework I have had to use a lot of technology someI had used before some I hadn't however becaus eof this course I was able to learn about those technologies and get used to them and really quickly as the coursework had deadlines.

The technologies I had to use were

Blogger was a new thing to me when we started however I was aware of blogging I just didn't do it. However it's quite fun to use and eperiment with it's like an electronis databook where bothimages and text can be made how the blogger likes it make it less tiresome to read as you decorate it and make it look less formal.
Photoshop
I was a photoshop beginner when we started the preliminary task which was college magazine as we went on to the second part of the coursework the musicmagazine my knowledge of photoshop started to grow and I started using more advanced tools on photoshop such as the lasso tool which I usedfor the double page spread this was one of the creative decisions I made.

the canon E0S 400D which I got use to after mastering the focus element of it.from this I had to be aware of the angles I took the picture the shot composition etc. someof the other photograph technologies included the trigger I had to be careful of it as other bits of technology was attachedto itand if not handled well couldcause a fire. I enjoyed using these equipment and tried to produce the best images I could with them.

softwares
mirosoft word
I wasalready familiar with word and this is where I typed upmost of my draft work and stored. From there I
would later redraft and make changes befor putting it on blogger

Q5 How did you attract/address your audience?

Below is a picture of my magazine frontcover with details about what I did that would attract my target audience to my magazine.

I attracted my audience by using a lot of COLOUR so it’s eye catching as teenagers tend to lose attention quickly on things that don’t grab their attention or seem interesting.
I also photographed people they could relate to in other words people Around the SAME AGE as my target audience.I also photographed both genders and photographed a diverse race of people.
I included HEADLINES AND COVER LINES that grab attention and those that young people took interest in for example the use of celebrities and some gossip and some hooking headlines about music.
The CLOTHING that the model was wearing is also stylish and fashionable and it will have the audience wondering where it was bought from.
Her HAIRSTYLEfringe is also modern and is in season. Her make up is subtle and natural looking which was the style I was aiming at.

Q4 who would be the audience for your media product?

The media product Volume is targeting a worldwide audience as it talks about both UK US and othercountries and list the top songs in those countries by doing thisI am expanding the number ofpeople that It will be available to and this would bring in more profit and more interest in the product.

The magazine is targeted at 16 to 23 year olds and I did this because the magazine includes many features targeted at younger audiences and those older than 30 would not have so much interest in it unless they are into the types of music that my magazine volume focuses on however they might take interest in the worldwide music section in the magazine.

My magazine is aimed at all races and because of this I photographed peopleofdifferent races and colour. The races include caucasian, Black, Asain and Mixed race. It also targets both genders the frontcover is of a female and the contents page is of a male.

The music the audience should be into if they read my magazine is pop rnb a little bit of rap and a bit of rock but the main target is pop and rnb.

My audience would be into
Shopping
Fashion
Gaming-wii playstation
Sports
techs like ipod ipad etc
have a blackberry

FEMALE                  50%                                       MALE             50%
AVERAGE AGE         17                                          AGE RANGE   16-22
ETHNICITY                                                          ALL ETHNICITIES

Q3 What kind of media instituition might distribute your media product and why?

The publishing company that should publish my music magazine should be Bauer Media as they already publish magazine that are different from mine this would mean there wont be competition between my magazine and the magazines they already publish.
They publish Q magazine and Kerrang magazine.

Bauer media lack a music magazine that is aimed at a diverse ethnic majority of young people and my magazine can be the one that fills that space.
It will beneficial to the publishing company as
·         They will have a diverse magazine with them
·         They will gain profits from my magazine

I would distribute my magazine in big shopping centres example Blue water and Westfield as most of my target group hang out in those places for entertainment during holidays weekends.

I would also distribute my magazine in stores in theme parks but this would be only seasonal distribution place.

Another form of distribution would be at fashion shows for example the young designers that interest the young college and university students especially the girls. This would be the area to be in terms of getting the females interested in my magazine
For the boys I would distribute in shops like JD sports. The shops for the girls would be top shop

Q2 part 2

My magazine is aimed at people of different ethnicities and races and because of this I photographed people  of different races rather than just one race and this also influenced the name that I gave my magazine.

I photographed a girl dressed in really fashionable preppy clothes to give both an RnB and pop feel this followed a convention. I wanted my magazine to have a friendly feel to which will make the audience pick up the magazine when they see rather than just walk past and becase of this I had the model smiling. I did this so it would appeal to more than one type of subculture so it gets away from the marketing a niche group of people and rather a mass group of people.

This an image of the model

Q2 How does your magazine product represent particular social groups?

My magazine is targeted at both males and females of the ages 16-22 and people of these age tend to have certain interests and things they like to do my magazine tries to fit all their interest into one however the one interest they must have is an interest in music and the music that my magazine is aimed at is a pop and Rnb mix with a little section in the magazine every issue about other types of music by doing this my magazine becomes diverse which a lot of my target group like to be.
